The Car Matchmaker · Service

The right car
for the way you drive.

Most car-buying advice is generic. It doesn't know your garage, your climate, your kids, your commute, or the car you owned five years ago that you secretly miss. Matchmaking starts with all of that. A questionnaire with a real conversation resulting in a tailored shortlist of up to five cars that match your life. All without pressure, upselling, or dealer commissions under the table.

Why matchmaking

The case for thinking about
the car before you fall for one.

Majority of car purchases are reactive. Matchmaking bring logic and flips the order: first I figure out what fits you, then I find it.

The usual way

Reactive shopping, driven by the listings in your area.

  • You see a car you like, then justify its fit
  • You shortlist around what's available, not what's right
  • You negotiate against the seller's information advantage
  • You discover the wrong-fit problems 2 weeks in
  • Sell and repeat every 3+ years

The matchmaker way

Proactive, structured, designed around how you actually live.

  • I figure out the right kind of car before we look at any listings
  • You shortlist around fit, with the trade-offs pointed out
  • You arrive at a listing with information & context
  • You buy a car you'll still want in five years
  • You spend less time second-guessing and more time driving
The process

From the first call
to the right car.

Five steps, normally paced over 1-2 weeks depending on the tier and car rarity. No surprises along the way.

01
Phase 01 · 15 min · Free

The free call

We talk through your situation, your timeline, and your needs. By the end you'll know whether the matchmaker service makes sense for you, which tier fits, or whether you got things figured out on your own. No pressure, no sales pitch.

02
Phase 02 · 1 day · You + me

The questionnaire

A structured form covering your lifestyle and preferences that takes you 15 minutes to fill in. I review it before the next call.

03
Phase 03 · 2 days · Me

The research

I analyze the answers, verify current market conditions, depreciation curves, and what's realistic at your budget. The outcome is a tailored shortlist of up to five cars that actually fit; complete with rationale, trade-offs, and the typical trap to avoid in your situation.

04
Phase 04 · 20-30 min · You + me

The review call

We walk through the shortlist together and narrow it down. By the end of this call you'll typically pick one or two cars to pursue further, with a clear sense of why.

05
Phase 05 · Tier-dependent

The next move

The Match ends here. The Search goes further. I pick best-suited listings of the chossen cars and provide a Model-specific Deep Dive. Concierge goes all the way. I take care of negotiating, contract review, and delivery coordination. You sign the contract and pick up the keys.

The questionnaire sample

Questions designed
to find the real match.

Examples from the questionnaire. More in the full version.

Use case

"What does the car do both daily and occasionally?"

Why: typically cars fail at the edge cases. Knowing the once-a-month use shapes the shortlist in the right direction.

Garage & climate

"Where does the car live (garage, driveway, street)? And how brutal is your winter?"

Why: an outdoor-only car in Toronto and a garaged car in Vancouver live very different lives.

Budget

"What's the all-in monthly number that includes insurance, fuel, parking, and a surprise repair?"

Why: purchase price is only a portion of true ownership cost. The honest monthly amount is a better guide.

Compromises

"What's the one thing you've sworn you'll never compromise on again?"

Why: the non-negotiable filter is the fastest way to remove the wrong cars from the shortlist.

Sample shortlist

What does
it look like?

An illustrative client example: healthy $70K budget, lives in Toronto, has a young family but isn't ready to give up an enjoyable daily driver. The full deliverable includes 5 cars, expanded why per each pick, and the common trap to avoid in this individual situation.

Audi S4 sport sedan
PICK 01

B 9.5 Audi S4

The disciplined choice. Exceptional sport sedan dynamics, Quattro AWD system for the Toronto winter, fits two car seats, and sophisticated enough that nobody at daycare pickup looks at you twice. Used B9.5 examples are plentiful in Ontario.

Trade-off: Resale lags BMW by a few points. Interior space is on the smaller side. Earlier 3.0T engines had carbon buildup and oil consumption issues worth a PPI.

$45–65k CAD
BMW M550i xDrive sport sedan
PICK 02

BMW M550i xDrive G30 LCI

The plentiful pick. A 4.4L twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp in a full-size sedan that has a proper rear seat for the kids and in-laws. A comfy and better daily vs M5, for considerably less money. The kind of car that makes commute the best part of the day.

Trade-off: V8 fuel economy. Out-of-warranty maintenance gets real. Insurance steps up vs the S4.

$60–80k CAD
Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon (W212)
PICK 03

Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon W212

The wagon answer. 5.5L twin-turbo V8 with 577 hp and AMG-tuned 4MATIC, in a five-seat estate that swallows two car seats, the hockey bag, and the IKEA run. Yet still does 0–100 km/h in under four seconds. The school-pickup car no one sees coming. #WAGONMAFIA.

Trade-off: Older AMG maintenance. M157 V8 needs a careful PPI. Fuel and insurance step up.

$58–72k CAD
The trap to avoid (in this scenario): default luxury SUV path: X3, GLC, GV70. Sure, they check the family-hauler box but they're heavier, less engaging, and depreciate faster. A sport sedan costs similar money, drives better, and tends to resell stronger.

Tier 01 · The Match

The right answer to "what car should I actually buy?"

$249 CAD One-time

The shortest engagement but the one that saves you from buying the wrong car. You answer a 15-min questionnaire and get a written shortlist of up to five cars to consider in your situation, with the rationale and trade-offs explained. We top it off with a call to talk through it and from there you are ready to go further.

What you walk away with

  • A 15-minute first call. We confirm our fit before committing fully. If it isn't a fit, you still get a real answer.
  • The questionnaire. Lifestyle, budget, drive mix, non-negotiables, turn offs. Typically takes 15 minutes.
  • A written shortlist of up to 5 cars. Not just a list of "good cars." A list of cars that match your car-shaped wants, with detailed rationale with each pick: why this trim, generation, engine, years.
  • The trade-offs. Every pick comes with the costs spelled out in money, maintenance, estimated resale value, and the way it'll drive on day 500.
  • A 20-minute review call. We talk through the shortlist together. Push back, ask the questions you'd be shy to ask a seller.
Timeline 3–5 days

Most Match engagements take a business week. Fraction of time the research normally takes you.

This is for you if:

You have a car budget but can't decide which car to pick. Or you've narrowed it to 2-3 cars and you want a second opinion from an expert without a sales quota.

Skip it if: you already know exactly what you want and just need someone to find one. That's The Search.

Tier 03 · Concierge

I complete the whole process. You sign at delivery.

$1,099 CAD By application

The full engagement where I find the right car, vet it, negotiate the price, review the paperwork, coordinate the trade-in, and arrange pick up. You do the test drive (if you want one) and sign at delivery. My goal is always to save you more on price than the engagement cost. That's not a guarantee, but it's been the outcome on almost all Concierge engagements.

What's included on top of The Search

  • Full price negotiation on your behalf. By phone, by email, in person if it helps. I know the process from the inside. The win comes out of the seller's margin, not your pocket.
  • Contract review and closing support. The bill of sale, the financing terms, the warranty add-ons, and the dealer fees that are actually negotiable. I read every line before you sign anything.
  • Pre-purchase inspection coordination support. The cost of the PPI is on you (~$200–400 typical) but the coordination, the questions, and the results read-out are on me.
  • Trade-in coordination. If you're trading in, I get competing offers and make sure the trade value doesn'ttake away from the new car discount.
  • Delivery handoff. Delivery will be arranged at convenient time and you don't sign anything we haven't already discussed.
Timeline 2–3 weeks typical

From the initial call to keys in hand. Faster on regular cars, slower on rare or imported cars where the right one might not be available immediately.

Why "by application" I take a few of these per month

Concierge is involved enough that I want to make sure I'm 100% focused on your case. The initial 15-minute call is also where I confirm I can take you on.

The math The fee usually pays itself back

On most engagements, the negotiation discount alone has saved more than the fee. That isn't a promise as it depends on the car and the market, but it's been the typical outcome.

This is for you if:

Your time is worth more than the engagement fee; you want to skip talking to the dealer, or the car is worth significant enough that having a second set of eyes is just rational.

Skip it if: you actually enjoy the search and negotiation. Save your money and perhaps pick a lower tier..

Honest disclosure

Who fits,
and who doesn't.

This service is built for buyers who value their time, want the right answer on the first go, and would rather skip the dealership games. If that's you, let's talk. If not – all good! The free Carsmenskii content is always available.

Right fit

You should hire me if…

  • You're spending $20,000+ and want to get it right the first time.
  • You've already lost a weekend (or three) on Autotrader and the answer isn't getting clearer.
  • You want a car that actually fits your life. Not whatever the dealer's trying to move this quarter.
  • You're buying for the next 2+ years, not flipping in 6 months.
  • You'd rather pay an expert than spend time becoming one.
Not the right fit

You should skip me if…

  • You're certain you want the cheapest possible option, regardless of long-term cost or condition.
  • You actually enjoy the dealership process and negotiating.
  • You need to be in a car within 7 days.
  • You expect a guaranteed below-market price.
  • You want someone to validate a decision you've already made.
FAQ

Common questions.

Do you make money from the dealer?

No. Carsmenskii services are paid only by clients. I don't accept commissions, kickbacks, or referral fees from dealers, manufacturers, or third-party sellers. That's the entire point of the service: I am exclusively on your side.

Where do you operate?

I'm based in Toronto and work with clients across Canada, though so far the work has been concentrated in Ontario and the GTA. Sourcing cars from the U.S. or overseas (for delivery into Canada) is something I can take on; I'll quote it honestly based on the specific car and timeline.

How long does the whole process take?

It depends on the car. Common, in-stock vehicles can close within a week or two of my first call. Rare or imported cars can take longer. I'll give you a realistic timeline before you commit, and I'll tell you up front if the timeline isn't realistic.

What if my chosen car needs to be imported?

I can handle imports, JDM wagons, European-spec rarities, US-only trims. I haven't done dozens of these; I have done enough to know what's involved (paperwork, RIV, compliance work) and to know when to bring in a specialist broker. Concierge engagements include the coordination and review.

Can you negotiate on my behalf at the dealership?

Yes, that's the Concierge tier. I negotiate by phone, email, and in person if needed. The goal is always to save you more than the cost of the engagement on the price alone; whether that always works depends on the car, the dealer, and the market.

Do you work with leases as well as purchases?

Yes. The lease-vs-buy math is its own conversation; I'll walk you through which makes more sense for your situation, then negotiate the lease terms (capitalized cost, money factor, residual) on your behalf if leasing wins.

What happens if I don't like the cars on the shortlist?

I iterate. The Match includes one shortlist; The Search and Concierge include up to three rounds. I'd rather take an extra round to find the right car than push you into something close-enough.

Is there a satisfaction guarantee?

Absolutely. If I deliver the shortlist and you don't see a fit within the first round, I'll do a second round at no additional cost. I can't guarantee a specific car at a specific price as that depends on the market, but I guarantee the work.

Ready to start?

Let's talk for 15 minutes.

Free, no pressure. We'll figure out whether matchmaking makes sense for you, which tier fits, or whether you don't need help at all. By the end of the call you'll know your next step either way.
